The Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority (ESMA) today awarded McDonald’s UAE the Halal National Mark, recognizing the company’s continuous commitment towards Halal services.

 

ESMA has worked closely with the Stakeholders to set the requirements for granting the Halal National Mark to food producers as part of a UAE-wide scheme to regulate and certify the Halal industry. An awards ceremony today celebrated McDonald’s UAE as the first Quick Service Restaurant in the region to earn the noteworthy accolade. 

 

H.E Abdulla Al Maeeni, Director General of ESMA said, “Halal products and services in the UAE are promoted using the Halal National Mark to assure their compliance to Shariah-compliant.  The UAE scheme for halal products is the first-of-its-kind at both Arab and Gulf levels which is in line with international best practices. We are pleased to recognize McDonald’s UAE as fully compliant with the strict criteria behind ESMA’s Halal certification.”

 

Speaking at the award ceremony, Rafic Fakih, Managing Director and Partner at McDonald’s UAE said, “Being awarded ESMA’s Halal National Mark today represents a major accolade and reinforces McDonald’s UAE ongoing commitment to ensuring that all products served at all our restaurants are Halal. Our customers can be assured that the food they enjoy is certified Halal with the same world-famous taste that McDonald's is known for.”

Since the launch of the first McDonald’s in the UAE, the company has offered high quality Halal food to its customers through qualified suppliers. McDonald’s ensures 100 percent supplier eligibility before adding any source to its database of approved suppliers. All McDonald’s ingredients are also inspected and approved by local authorities and Halal offices at the countries of export and upon arrival at port of entry.
