In line with its commitment to protect the environment, preserve the natural resources and to promote the understanding of the green economy, Emirates Central Cooling Systems     Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, announced its platinum sponsorship of the State of Green Economy Report 2017 for Dubai Carbon. 

 

Since its launch, the Green Economy Report sheds light on Dubai’s accomplishments and achievements in developing and applying green economy charters in all the different sectors. It also highlights Dubai’s support for green economy and the reduction of carbon emissions. The report also outlines initiatives which encourage innovation and policies which speed up the transition to an economy rooted on environmental sustainability. The UAE strives to be a role model in the transition to a green economy by preserving natural resources.

 

The report is also a guide to how the UAE can reduce carbon emissions in the energy sector and encouraging the market to adopt alternative energy sources. Moreover, it points out that knowledge leads to change and reformulation of strategies as it offers valuable information to decision makers and specialists in the energy sector.

Our platinum sponsorship of the 2017 Green Economy Report for Dubai Carbon is consistent with our vision and our strategy which supports the UAE Vision 2021 and its strategic goals which encompasses the protection of the environment and facing the climate change challenge since protecting the environment against climate change is one of the key components of this far sighted vision. Being the world’s largest district cooling services provider, we serve a large proportion of society and have a joint responsibility with society to protect the environment for generations to come. Carbon emissions are directly caused by global warming; this makes the report a wakeup call for everyone to be responsible towards the environment and to develop technological devices in the energy sector in order to meet the highest international standards. Our sponsorship of the report is an extension to what we do on a daily basis,” said HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

“Our continued efforts to raise awareness on the importance of being responsible towards the environment either by reducing the carbon footprint on personal or institutional levels or adopting more sustainable methods across institutions will proactively contribute to the transition to a green and sustainable economy. From our end, we continue to promote the correct use of water and electricity through our initiatives such as our recent “Set to 24C and Save”, in addition to Empower spreading the latest district cooling technology to a number of developing countries being part of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)’s DES initiative,” added Bin Shafar.

HE Bin Shafar assured that Empower’s cooling systems save 50% electricity comparing to conventional cooling systems. Moreover, the corporation has succeeded in saving millions of gallons of water and thousands of megawatts of electricity in the past few years, through the use of district cooling. It was these results that qualified Empower to be a pioneer in the reduction of carbon footprint in the UAE and the world, in addition to earning a number of international awards.

Empower currently operates more than 1.1 Million RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, among others.
