GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre Takes Center Stage at Dubai Arbitration Week!

The GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre actively participated in Dubai Arbitration Week 2023, hosted by Dubai International Arbitration Centre from November 13 to 17. The event brought together global arbitration centers and esteemed professionals specializing in commercial dispute resolution. 

The Center was represented by Mr. Saleh Al-Sharqi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Yusuf Zainal, Board Member, and Dr. Kamal Abdullah Al-Hamad, the Secretary General of the Center.

Dr. Kamal Abdullah Al-Hamad emphasized the Center's commitment to engaging in such events due to their significance in broadening its network of relationships, establishing strategic partnerships with counterparts from diverse countries, and solidifying its standing as a reliable global hub for dispute resolution. He acknowledged the Dubai World Trade Centre's efforts in organizing events and forums, which serve as an international platform contributing to the empowerment of the dispute settlement industry. 

Dr. Kamal highlighted the Center's role in supporting and advancing mechanisms for resolving disputes in the realm of international arbitration and underscored the GCC Commercial Arbitration Center's crucial role in facilitating business operations in the Gulf region. Furthermore, He emphasized the Center's contribution to the investment environment through innovative solutions for settling commercial disputes and pointed out the Center's vital role in developing and fortifying international arbitration rules, as well as its involvement in resolving cross-border commercial cases involving companies and investments based in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

“The current economic landscape of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries underscores the pressing need for novel legal tools and mechanisms that bolster and contribute to the advancement of the tourism, investment, and banking sectors. This is in addition to the pivotal role of the Center in translating these aspirations into tangible efforts and accomplishments, particularly in activating the financial and banking system.” According to Dr. Kamal.

“The Center contributes significantly to this field by providing exceptional legal services that facilitate litigation procedures between banking institutions and other entities. These services are designed to ensure the application and development of modern, flexible, and effective dispute resolution mechanisms. Such mechanisms are tailored to align with the consistent growth in trade and investments, staying in sync with the latest developments in the Gulf legal landscape and adhering to international judicial best practices.”

Dr. Kamal highlighted that the Center, as the representative of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in the arbitration domain, holds a key role in bolstering the positive reputation of its judicial environment. This is achieved through initiatives such as enhancing international cooperation, fostering knowledge exchange with other centers, expanding the roster of specialized arbitrators, and active participation in international forums and conferences. These engagements aim to inform the regional and international arbitration community about the Gulf region's advancements in facilitating business, attracting investments, and elevating professional standards and practices in commercial arbitration. Furthermore, he emphasized that these efforts signify the Center's international standing in delivering dispute resolution services, with the goal of becoming the preferred arbitration center in the region by 2030. This objective aligns with supporting the Gulf region's reputation as a favorable environment for commercial arbitration.
