Majd Al Shehhi Appointed Manager of ‘1001 Titles’ Initiative

Under the directives of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organising Committee of ‘Knowledge without Borders’, Sharjah-based cultural project Knowledge without Borders (KwB) has announced that it has appointed Majd Al Shehhi as Manager of its ‘1001 Titles’ initiative. Launched mid-February 2016 under the slogan ‘Nurturing Talent to Enrich Content, 1001 Titles aims to add to the canon of intellectual and cultural literary offerings in the UAE.

 

Majd Al Shehhi received her BA in Business Administration, Marketing, from Sharjah University in 2011 and is currently enrolled on the Sharjah Leadership Program, which was launched by Sharjah Tatweer Forum in collaboration with the Sharjah Environment Company Bee’ah and the American University of Sharjah.

 

Following her university graduation, Al Shehhi was elected as Public Relations and Media Executive at KwB. The successful implementation of the 1001 Titles project and the dissemination of its mission and goals to a wide audience was attributed in part to her high degree of effort and her insight into media relations.

 

 

 

 

Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of the Organising Committee of KwB said: “I feel extremely proud every time I see an Emirati woman prove herself and attain yet another achievement that enriches her successful professional career, as each accomplishment marks an important milestone in the development that the UAE is witnessing.”

 

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi added; “In line with the wise leadership’s directives, Emirati women are proving their capability to the whole world that they are highly skilled professionals, inspirational leaders, wise planners and can successfully accomplish ambitious objectives, goals and strategies. I look forward to seeing even more talented Emirati women bringing excellence at the highest level to all sectors.”

 

Rashid Al Kous, General Manager of KwB, said that the appointment of Al Shehhi as the 1001 Titles’ Manager was in line with the project’s vision to enrich its human resources by ensuring KwB’s female employees have equal opportunity for promotion to managerial and leadership positions. He reiterated KwB’s commitment to appointing individuals to senior roles based on merit and irrespective of gender. 

 

“At KwB, we are focused on following the directives of our wise leadership, which in regard to employment practices aim to empower Emirati women alongside their male colleagues. We believe that economic and cultural advancement cannot be achieved without the input of women working in all positions, from junior entry-level joiners to senior management - they are essential for our journey of growth and development,” said Al Kous.

 

For her part, Majd Al Shehhi said; “The unparalleled support that I received from KwB’s Organising Committee, headed by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, had a significant positive impact on my role as public Relations and Media Executive. It has motivated me and given me greater determination to further my professional career.”

 

Al Shehhi expressed her gratitude to the management of KwB for showing their confidence in her abilities and said that she hoped that her new position would enable her to follow the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which aims to promote the Emirate of Sharjah culturally. She confirmed that, together with her new team, she will do her best to realise the objectives of the 1001 Titles initiative.

 

KwB launched 1001 Titles on February 15 this year, with the project inaugurated to be in line with both 2016 being declared the ‘Year of Reading’ in the UAE by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and with the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to develop and support cultural development in Sharjah and in the UAE.

 

1001 Titles intends to publish 1,001 Emirati books over the next two years, with the aim of enriching the cultural and intellectual sphere in the UAE and ensuring the building of a sustainable publishing industry inside and outside the country. The project works to support Emirati authors as well as Emirati publishing houses, in particular the smaller ones, to enable them to compete in the global publishing sector.

 

KwB was launched by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and is closely supervised and supported by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Head of its Organising Committee. The initiative aims to establish reading as a noble habit in every household in the UAE by encouraging the establishment of home libraries and by supplying these libraries with the very best books in a variety of genres suitable for the entire family.
