Senior officials, intellectuals and media at Sharjah Media Centre’s Iftar banquet

Senior Sharjah government figures, heads of departments, intellectuals and members of media attended a lavish Iftar banquet hosted by Sharjah Media Centre (SMC), the media and communications arm of the Sharjah government, at Al Majaz Amphitheatre in Sharjah.

The SMC Ramadan Iftar was held following the successful conclusion of fifth Sharjah Ramadan Majlis dialogue series that saw a galaxy of senior UAE government figures, ministers, intellectuals, scholars and academics debate various sociological issues and challenges facing the region and the Arab world.

Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of SMC, said: “I would like to welcome you all in this Ramadan evening, which gathers us today as one family after the fifth Ramadan Majlis. The Majlis concluded few days ago in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who enriched the event with his invaluable insights and wisdom.”

The SMC Chairman said that over the past five years, Sharjah Media Centre has focused on initiatives that align with Sharjah’s vision and approach in promoting both internal and external constructive communication.

“As part of these efforts we recently unveiled XPOSURE, the first International Photography Festival, in partnership with Canon and international news agency, Associated Press, to support and complement our efforts in supporting the media industry in the country and the region,” he added.

On this occasion, a formal agreement between SMC and Canon Middle East was inked with Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi and Anurag Agrawal, Managing Director of Canon Middle East, signing the Agreement on behalf of the two organisations.

Mr. Anurag Agrawal, Managing Director, Canon Middle East said, “Canon is proud to partner with Sharjah Media Centre and to associate with XPOSURE 2016. At Canon, we continuously strive to deliver the highest standards in imaging through our newest advances in digital solutions. By showcasing these technologies at XPOSURE 2016, we aim to further build the skills of photographers and photo enthusiasts.”

He said that Sharjah Media Centre in partnership with Canon, developed a unified global platform for upcoming photographers and photojournalists from around the world to meet and share their experiences.

“The photography trade show and the biggest stand in the Middle East will allow companies in the photography industry to showcase and demonstrate their latest products,” said Agrawal.

Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of SMC, said that XPOSURE is an ideal opportunity for all photography enthusiasts to connect with and learn from top local and international photographers and accomplished professionals of the industry through a series of talks, screenings and workshops.

The first International Photography Festival offers an integrated experience of celebrating the art of photography and covers all aspects of learning, from soft knowledge to advanced technical skills, combined with a selection of top photography equipment companies being showcased in the Trade Show, which also provides the experts consultancy.
