The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commended the intense commitment demonstrated by government departments and institutions in reducing avoidable consumption and wastage in Dubai.
During a Dubai Government Conservation Committee meeting, His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, highlighted the urgent need to make additional efforts for conservation despite significant achievements.
Attended by 12 members of the Dubai Government Conservation Committee, government departments renewed their efforts in saving electricity and water in their buildings. The committee includes members from Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, Civil Defence, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Dubai Land Department.
Amal Koshak, Senior Manager – Demand and Tariff Management, DEWA, acknowledged the government departments for their efforts in rationalising the conservation of precious natural resources and called on members to intensify their endeavour to safeguard the environment for future generations, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
During the meeting, Dubai Municipality pledged to use energy-saving lamps instead of conventional lighting, replace magnetic ballasts with electronic ones, and install aerators (water-saving devices).
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said it has drawn up an operational plan for energy audits based on the recommendations from DEWA’s Demand and Tariff Management division. The Dubai Land Department vowed to replace old cooling water devices and make new air conditioning units more efficient.
Dubai Police and Civil Defence are at present studying the recommendations offered by DEWA for conducting energy review and implementing conservation plans.
Koshak said: “DEWA is keen to sustain cooperation measures with all government, semi-government and private sector organisations to ensure these entities adhere to best procedures for reducing energy consumption.”
Set up by the Infrastructure and Environment Committee last year, the Dubai Government Conservation Committee aims to assess conservation measures and offer ideas that can develop into tangible suggestions.
