Abu Dhabi Media Provides Extensive Coverage of Reading Initiatives to Support ‘Reading Nation’ Ramadan Campaign

Abu Dhabi Media (ADM) is marking an impactful participation in the ‘Reading Nation’ Ramadan campaign launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The media entity is offering extensive coverage and promotion of all the campaign’s events across schools and malls throughout the UAE.

Through its various media channels, including radio, TV, print publications and social media platforms, Abu Dhabi Media is developing innovative ideas to encourage members of the public to contribute to this campaign. The network will also cover all special events where books are distributed to beneficiaries - as an outcome of the Reading Nation campaign. In addition, ADM is promoting the campaign through providing advertising space in its publications, as well as broadcasting campaign videos and displaying the campaign’s slogan in a loop at specific time slots on its TV channels.

Abdul Rahim Al Batih, Head of international Relations at Abu Dhabi Media, said: “Our participation in the Reading Nation campaign complements our sustained efforts to support social, cultural and humanitarian government initiatives in the country. We have always allocated significant air time to highlighting the importance of reading on our programs, such as ‘Abu Dhabi Reads’ - that started in 2015 and continues till today. However, the Reading Nation campaign transcends the UAE’s borders and includes a global humanitarian agenda. Seeking to engage with and impact the Arab and Islamic worlds, the UAE’s progressive initiative will help shape an educated and open-minded generation that is capable of building a sustainable future for itself and the world at large.”

He added: “Through promoting the Reading Nation Ramadan campaign, we seek to connect children and students in the UAE with their counterparts in Arab and Muslim countries so that they can share a common dream and work together to confront any challenges that may adversely affect their future.”

Commenting on the anticipated response from society to the Reading Nation Ramadan campaign, Al Batih said: “The UAE society, comprising multinational, multi-ethnic and multi-religious populations, firmly backs our country’s visionary leadership in articulating and realizing important humanitarian goals. In the course of our work every day we see families expressing an interest in helping underprivileged people - this validates the growing sense of humanitarian awareness.”

Launched on day one of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Reading Nation campaign continues until the 19th day of Ramadan that coincides with Zayed Humanitarian Day. It aims to provide five million books to children in refugee camps and underprivileged students in schools across the world through granting two million books to refugee children and a further two million books to establish more than 2,000 schools libraries around the world. In addition, the campaign is also mandated to support the educational programs implemented by the UAE’s humanitarian organizations worldwide - with one million books.

The Emirates Red Crescent and Dubai Cares will receive donations through their bank accounts, branch locations, and donation kiosks across the country.

Etisalat and Du Telecommunications have dedicated toll-free numbers through which individuals can make donations to the campaign throughout Ramadan, with each book costing AED10.
