The Butterfly House in Sharjah’s Al Noor Island is to provide the perfect setting for Learn about Butterflies Day, taking place tomorrow (Tuesday). Visitors will be able to admire the insects first hand and inspect their colours and curiosities at close range.

Hundreds of families, children, tourists and visitors in Sharjah and across the UAE will enjoy a memorable experience as they hear from experts about the environmental importance of butterflies and their place in a sustainable future. The visitors will gain insights, and engage in activities that help them take away valuable knowledge about one of the world’s most exotic species.

The Butterfly House is the only facility of its kind in Sharjah and is home to 22 species, with around 500 individual butterflies fluttering about any given day.

The goals which surround Learn about Butterflies Day form a large part of the emirate’s cultural and ecological programme for a stable natural environment.

Marwa Obaid Al Shamsi, Al Noor Island Manager said: “The Butterfly House is tailor-made for this day and the celebrations are not just for the butterflies we see today, but for nature as a whole. Sharjah is proving time and again that it is an ideal, family-friendly learning ground where we can all find new areas of interest and discover new attractions.

“Al Noor Island, nestled in the Khalid Lagoon, is becoming Sharjah’s most realistic global environmental experience and the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life,” he added.

Other events taking place on the day at Al Noor Island include face painting, an outdoor tour, children’s arts and crafts, a board to take photos, wish tree and butterfly lifecycle videos, which will be displayed in the Literature Pavilion, detailing the entire lifespan of butterflies.

The Butterfly House has also announced that any children who go along to the event dressed as butterflies will be entitled to free entry.

The 45,470 square metre Al Noor Island in Sharjah’s Khalid Lagoon, is a one-of-a-kind architectural project, which allows people to engage with nature and avant-garde design in spacious enclaves and avenues. Launched by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), the island encapsulates Shurooq’s commitment to reinforcing Sharjah's status as a leading cultural, tourist and investment destination in the region.
Through Al Noor Island and other high-value projects creating world-class destinations, Shurooq aims to stimulate Sharjah’s fast growing leisure and tourism, and contribute to the emirate’s tourism vision with a plan to attract 10 million visitors by 2021.
