AUS students exhibit creative talent at graduation show in d3

Creative work by graduating students of the College of Architecture, Art and Design (CAAD) at American University of Sharjah (AUS), was showcased at an exhibition at Dubai Design District (d3), on Thursday, June 2, 2016. Six Degrees is the 2016 edition of the annual show of work by graduating CAAD students. An awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the show. d3’s facilitation of the show means that the students were provided with exclusive access to d3’s art and design business partners and contacts – providing students with a unique opportunity to secure internships and build relationships with key names in the UAE’s art and design sector.

“Six Degrees is an exhibition and compilation of work done in CAAD by graduating students and is an annual tradition. It provides an opportunity for professionals to get to know our graduates and the high quality of their work,” said Dr. Varkki Pallathucheril, Dean of CAAD. “As part of the Six Degrees exhibition, a catalog has been prepared featuring the work of all the students.”Dr. Pallathucheril thanked d3 for facilitating the show as part of d3’s wider student outreach program and involving d3 business partners, media and key influencers from the art and design world to view the students’ work.

Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi, Chief Operations Officer d3, said, “Providing a platform for emerging talent in art and design is core to the vision and mission of d3 and we are extremely proud to host this year’s show by the graduating students of the College of Art, Architecture and Design at AUS. d3 is committed to providing Dubai and the MENA region with a creative platform that educates, inspires and nurtures emerging talent. This graduate show reflects d3’s ambition to enable the growth of emerging designers here in the UAE and beyond.”

Joya Ghaoui, graduating in Visual Communications from AUS, stated, “Six Degrees is one thread between the university and the real world and I feel sad to be leaving the university but excited about stepping out into the real world."

, “This is the first year that the CAAD Student Board has been involved with Six Degrees,” said Rabeeya AbdulJabbar, President, CAAD Student Board. “It has been an honor helping in this venture and bidding farewell to our graduating students."

The show consisted of works done by graduating CAAD students in architecture, interior design, urban planning, design management, multimedia design and visual communication.
