Empower marks World Health Day with free check up for personnel

Marking the World Health Day, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, organised a free health check-up for its personnel. A total of 120 employees participated to review their vitals, at Mediclinc Beach Road, Dubai.

The event, carried out by Mediclinic Beach Road from 9 am to 4 pm,covered blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and Body Mass Index (BMI).

“To recognise the World Health Day, Empower showed commitment to its staff to increase awareness of critical global health issues, and provide them with free check up and advisory services,” saidHE Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower. “Companies working in any country hold big responsibility towardstheir employees to ensure their wellbeing and satisfaction. In the UAE, we have gone an extra mile of ensuring not only satisfied employees but also happy ones.”

“Health issues are major concern for countries around the world. In order to supportDubai and the UAE overcome such challenges, the business community has to step up and show more commitment towards their employees and wider society,” added Bin Shafar.

In 2011, world leaders agreed that non-communicable diseases represent a major challenge to achieving sustainable development. Last year, Governments adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include the target of reducing premature mortality from non-communicable diseases (NCDs) by one-third. SDGs call for reducing premature death from NCDs by 30 per cent by 2030. World Health Organisation decided to devote this year's World Health Day to diabetes.

“We have responded to the global call forfighting diabetes, which is alarmingly spreading across the region, by collaborating with Mediclinic Middle East to cover random blood sugar and Body Mass Index plus other health issues,” elaborated Bin Shafar.

Empower pays attention to health issues, as this was reflected in a series of health-focused events, including blood donation campaigns, open days with Dubai Thalassemia Center, cycling parades, plus others.

Empower currently operates more than 1,100,000 RT, providing environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments, such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World Trade Centre Residences and Dubai Design District, among others.
