Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, renewed its commitment to  protect the environmental resources in the UAE in conjunction with the World Environment Day (WED). The company said that this commitment stems from Empower’s efforts to implement UAE Vision in adopting best sustainable solutions to save natural resources for future generations. 

 

“Empower’s adherence to United Nation (UN)’s standards in protecting the environment is part of the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to prioritise sustainability to save environmental resources for generations to come. We, at Empower, work in adherence with the objective of WED through exploring best sustainable practices that preserve natural resources.” said HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Empower. “Our work is also part of the Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum that aims for the UAE to be a global leader in sustainability and conservation of energy use.”

 

Empower adopts an ambitious and long-term strategy built around the concept of environmental sustainability as it has launched a series of green initiatives since its inception to promote the elements of the green economy in the UAE and to protect the environmental resources especially in the areas of water and electricity, two key elements in the company’s district cooling (DC) operations. The company believes that DC is one of the best environmentally friendly solutions in the world.

 

Throughout the past 13 years, Empower worked in accordance with Dubai plans towards sustainability and green economy through applying the latest technologies and developments in the cooling system. The company spearheaded many awareness campaigns for its customers to maximise the use of District Cooling technology that provides more than 50 per cent of energy savings compared with conventional cooling systems. 

 

“We are proud that Empower plays a role in protecting the environment against climate change in Dubai, as we are part of the environmental savings in electricity and water and the reduction of CO2 emissions. We also work according to the UAE vision 2021 as we support the collective international community's quest in fighting climate change,” HE Bin Shafar added. “We were able to save 892 megawatts of electricity in 2015 in addition to more than 263 million gallons of water over the past 5 years. These results qualify us to be a leader in reducing carbon emissions in the UAE and scoop up many international recognitions and certificates as an environmentally friendly company.”

 

“The continuing quest for community awareness to be more committed towards the environment, whether it be by reducing the carbon footprint at the level of individuals, or the adoption of more sustainable methods at the enterprise level will contribute effectively to meet the challenges of climate change. For our part, we reaffirm our commitment to achieving the optimal use of electricity and water on both individual and institutional levels,” concluded HE Bin Shafar.
