HRC, SNC join hands to protect rights of workers

Saudi Arabia’s Human Rights Commission (HRC) and the Saudi National Committee of Workers’ Committees (SNC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the aim of enhancing cooperation and coordination for protecting workers' rights and combating crimes of trafficking in persons.

The MoU was signed by HRC president, Dr. Awwad Al-Awwad and SNC President Eng. Nasser Al-Jeryad in a ceremony held at the HRC headquarters here on Monday.

The memorandum included extending mutual cooperation in preparing joint responses in the field of workers’ rights issues received from external bodies, as well as in research, studies, and opinion polls conducted jointly by the two sides.

The MoU also covers extending cooperation in reviewing laws, regulations, and procedures related to workers’ rights and combating crimes of trafficking in persons, and participating in forums, conferences, scientific symposia, specialized workshops, and training courses organized by both sides.

The deal also explores the possibility of either of the parties benefiting from the facilities, capabilities, and publications of the other party, especially during hosting guests from international organizations, in addition to promoting integration in developing society’s awareness about the culture of workers’ rights and combating crimes of trafficking in persons.

It is noteworthy that the MoU comes within the framework of HRC’s keenness to strengthen partnership and cooperation with government agencies and civil society institutions to develop and encourage respect for human rights since HRC has signed a number of memoranda of cooperation and understanding since its inception in this regard.
