“A child who reads will be an adult who thinks”. Firmly rooted on this philosophy, Chubby Cheeks Nursery hosted an eventful Read-a-thon for its tiny tots in the month of January. The initiative complements the UAE government’s vision of 2016 –The Year of Reading.

The month long initiative was not only aimed at exposing kids to the pleasure of reading, but also at guiding them to learn about letters, sight words and allow them to explore ideas in a fun way! 

The Read-a-thon was extended into various themes from popular story books, providing a link between the story and real life. Activities like face painting, puppet shows, clay modelling, cookie making, bubble play were a part of the reading sessions which  make the stories come to life and have meaning in reality. 

To inspire and motivate kids further, the Nursery announced a “Reading Champion” and award a child who reads and takes interest in books enthusiastically. 

Chubby Cheeks Nursery had also put special emphasis on parent involvement in this initiative by encouraging them to take an active part to help kids benefit from reading, through exploration and participation. 

Ms. Roshi Tandon, Managing Director, Chubby Cheeks Nursery, shared her views saying, “The year 2016 has been declared the year of reading in the UAE to create a generation of book lovers and consolidate the UAE’s position as a global capital for culture and knowledge. What better way to start the year than promoting this vision. We have always believed that reading is the cornerstone of a healthy and prosperous educational journey and will continue to instill the habit in our students from an early age.”

She also adds, “The Read-a-thon has been successful and we have discovered so many little readers already”

The month long Read-a-thon ended with a children's visit to bookshops in the Emirates.
