Sharjah Museums Authority Extends Two Exhibitions Until End Of Year

Sharjah Museums Authority has announced the extension of two of its ongoing exhibitions at Sharjah Art Museum, namely The Fairytales Come True: Worlds From the Imagination of Hans Christian Andersen exhibition, which was organized by UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) in collaboration with Sharjah Museums Authority; and Ethiopian photographer Aida Muluneh’s "Homebound: A Journey in Photography” exhibition, which was organized by The Africa Institute in Sharjah (TAI), in cooperation with Sharjah Museum Authority (SMA) and Sharjah Art Foundation.

“The Fairytales Come True: Worlds From the Imagination of Hans Christian Andersen” is an interactive and experiential celebration of the writer’s life and work. The exhibition is comprised display rooms that mix the analog with the digital the same way Andersen infused the magical into the real. The exhibition features dedicated to fairytales and themes that he used in his stories.

Aida Muluneh’s exhibition; curated by Dr. Salah Hassan, Director of TAI, along with Sataan Al Hassan as co-curator; is divided into two parts, with the first one showcasing a selection of exceptional examples of the artist’s works that chronicle her journey as an artist and a photojournalist, and her multiple contributions to imaging and image making in photographic-based works since her return to her homeland Ethiopia after years of living, studying and practicing in North America.

The exhibition’s second part is curated by the artist Aida Muluneh, and is devoted to showcasing the works of contemporary African photographers. The works were previously displayed at the Addis FotoFest. Founded by Muluneh herself and launched in 2010 in Addis Ababa, the biennial festival is the first and only international photography festival in East Africa.
