UAE Ministry of Education renews AUS MBA and economics programs accreditation

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program and the Bachelor of Art in Economics program at American University of Sharjah (AUS) have been reaccredited for another five years by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education Affairs Division in the United Arab Emirates.

An External Review Team (ERT) visited AUS from November 9 to 12 last year to review the two programs for renewal of their accreditation. Subsequent to the visit, the ERT Report suggested a few requirements which were satisfactorily addressed and met with by the university thus leading to the reaccreditation.

“The reaccreditation of both our MBA and our Bachelor of Arts in Economics program is testament to the quality of graduate and undergraduate programs offered at AUS,” said Dr. Björn Kjerfve, Chancellor of AUS. “The School of Business Administration (SBA) at AUS has won renown as one of the premier business schools in the Gulf region. Our MBA program has been designed to provide our graduates with the skills they need to be competitive in today's dynamic, global marketplace. The reaccreditation confirms the high standards AUS sets and meets consistently for all its programs,” he added.

A study published by Forbes Middle East ranked AUS as the best private university in the Gulf region offering an MBA degree, and second best among private universities offering MBA degrees in the entire Middle East and North African (MENA) region. The AUS MBA program is ranked the best in the Middle East region, as per a QS Global Business Schools Report. The rank was based on the demands of international employers for MBA graduates. The ranking, published by www.TopMBA.com, is unique in that it highlights the value of MBA programs based on employer demands of MBA graduates. It was based on over 4,000 responses from recruiters that hire MBA graduates.

To date, the AUS MBA program has graduated more than 300 students.

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics program at AUS received initial accreditation in April 2001, while the MBA program received it in May 2002.

Some of the notable alumni from the AUS MBA and BA in Economics programs include Sheikh Salem Abdulrahman Al Qasimi (MBA, 2011), Chairman, Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah; Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani (MBA, 2006), Chairman, Department of Statistics and Community Development Sharjah; Hessa Essa Buhumaid (MBA, 2005), Executive Director Services Sector, Prime Minister's Office; Ali Al Suwaidi (MBA, 2003), Vice President, Idama Facility Management Solution; Hanan Sahlawi (MBA, 2006), HR Director, Abu Dhabi Education Council; Shaima Gargash (Economics BA , 2004), Second Secretary of Human Rights, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ahmed Al-Jbori (Economics BA, 2004 and MBA, 2007), Business Development Manager, Binghatti Holding.
