du & Huawei Collaborate to Build Customer Centric Mobile Broadband Network in UAE

-            du and its strategic partner, Huawei—a leading global ICT solutions provider—have unveiled plans for a cooperation that will see the two companies build the region’s most advanced Mobile Broadband (MBB) Network, offering innovative evolutionary architecture ensuring the best possible user experience.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed today between Marwan BinShakar, Vice President Mobile Access Network at du and Mr. Ying Weimin, President of R&D Wireless Networks at Huawei outlining a three year wireless network insight project for the ICT vendor to assist du in the development of its next-generation Mobile Broadband Network.

The explosive growth of consumer data usage has led many Telecom operators to explore the expansion of their Mobile Broadband Networks to include technologies that can accommodate LTE-Advanced, 4.5G and 5G capabilities. The next-generation of Mobile Broadband Networks are being defined and developed to serve these huge data requirements as the Internet of Things continues to become more widespread.

Marwan BinShakar, Vice President Mobile Access Network at du, noted: "This MOU with Huawei outlines our commitment to offer the fastest, most reliable and technologically innovative Mobile Broadband connectivity services for our consumers in the UAE. We are witnessing the exponential rise in data usage, and to ensure that our customers continue to experience great service we need to remain at the forefront of technology.  As our strategic partner, Huawei has showcased its capability in partnering with us to shape the evolution roadmap for our network and has implemented multi-layer network solutions across the world.”

With its expertise in building mobile broadband networks, Huawei maintains that mobile services will spearhead the next revolution for the communications industry by enabling users to freely connect with each other, share content at high speeds, and enjoy more inspired communication experiences anytime, anywhere.

Mr. Ying Weimin, President of R&D Wireless Networks at Huawei said: “To address the challenges brought about by an ever-expanding mobile ecosystem, networks must become both broader and smarter. du has clearly made that a priority for their customers and will be able to leverage our expertise to develop an intuitive network enhanced with the very latest Huawei innovations. Building on our longstanding cooperation with du, Huawei is committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions to help evolve to a future of endless mobile possibilities.”

As part of the three year MOU, Huawei will lead on network insight that will oversee the flow of du’s business operations and provide technical and service support. Huawei’s focus will fall within four key pillars of operation which include Network Insight, User Behavior Analysis, User Migration Analysis and Spectrum & Network Evolution Recommendations.

Through this process Huawei will show du how to analyze the network and its customer’s usage habits to maximize the efficiency of its MBB network for continuous business success.

In recent years du and Huawei have continued to expand their relationship with several landmark projects for the region. Last year the two companies successfully completed field testing for LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) Carrier Aggregation between the 800MHz and 1800MHz frequency bands, with the aim of providing greater speed, indoor coverage and reliability to mobile subscribers across UAE.
