Dubai Customs attends rough diamonds evaluation event

 As part of its plan to enhance the knowledge and practical experience of its employees, Dubai Customs dispatched a delegation from the Customs Valuation Department to learn more about the international inspection and evaluation process for rough diamonds. The activity was organized by Stargems Group, DMCC, at the company’s headquarters in Almas Tower in Dubai, with the participation of specialists and experts from all over the world. 

 

 “The aim of participating in this event comes within the department's plans to empower employees and qualify them to become experts in evaluating precious stones in the future, in order to achieve the objectives of Dubai Customs regarding the preparation of customs experts in the field of precious stones and jewelry,” said Eman Badr Al-Suwaidy, Director of Customs Valuation Department. “It will also help in learning how to use rapid examination equipment, and understanding the characteristics and quality of diamonds, which helps to collect fair and reasonable customs duties, prevent evasion of customs duties, distinguish between real and fake diamonds, and protect the end user.”

 

On his part, Ali Al-Tamimi, senior manager of services and valuation database at Dubai Customs said; “The event has added new skills to the employees by learning about the methods used to inspect rough diamonds using the latest equipment in order to ensure the accuracy of diamond purity and evaluate their prices.”  

 

Shalish Jafiri, Chairman of Stargems Group thanks Dubai Customs for participating in the event, which hosts international experts and specialists in the field of examining precious stones before offering them for sale through tenders.

 

At the end of the event, the Dubai Customs delegation toured the gemstone inspection and testing laboratories and held meetings with some experts and rough diamond examination specialists.

 

Ali Al-Tamimi, senior manager of services and valuation database, Aousha Al-Kash, Mira Al-Mazmi and Maryam Salmeen from the Customs Valuation Department participated in the visit.
