Students impress audience with their knowledge of environment during ‘Inter School Environment Quiz’

Under the patronage of UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), Dulsco, a regional pioneer in waste management services and human resource solutions, organised an ‘Inter School Environment Quiz’. The event was hosted by The Kindergarten Starters School and attracted participation from more than 200 students across 22 schools. The event focused on the current environmental challenges and enlightened the students on their role in protection of our planet.

The Winchester School, Jebel Ali won the competition while JSS International School, Dubai and Our Own English High School, Sharjah (Boys Branch) secured the 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. Representatives from the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, S. Madhumohan, Director Waste Management at Dulsco, Moaz Sawaf from the Eco-Schools initiative felicitated the winning teams.

Eng. Aisha Mohammed Al Abdooli, Director of Education and Awareness Department, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, said that the Ministry’s support of the quiz initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to raising environmental awareness while instilling a sense of environmental responsibility among communities especially students. She said that such efforts, which articulate the Ministry’s vision of ‘Assuring Environmental Sustainability for Life’, will eventually lead to advanced best sustainable development practices and ensure a clean and healthy environment that is essential for the future.

“We would like to thank the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment for their support towards this event. This is an important and effective way to increase awareness and education related to environment and waste management issues among the young minds. Dulsco is initiating this activity as a support towards the strategic objective of the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment on Educating youth to drive the UAE towards a sustainable future,” stated S. Madhumohan, Director Waste Management, Dulsco.

“The main objective of the event was to create awareness about the importance of conserving and preserving the environment in a fun and informative way.  The idea was to instill the right habits in their minds at an early age so that they can effectively contribute and spread awareness amongst their peers as they grow up,” added Madhumohan.

As part of the ‘Recycle-to-Regain’ campaign, Dulsco aims to inculcate and sustain a change in the attitude of children and adults towards reducing waste and highlight the significance of recycling.

AED 10,000 worth of gifts was given to the winners, which included eco-friendly gifts, recycling bins and recyclables collection points.  The winner took away a specially designed collection cage for recyclables. The school that stood second and third took away sets of recycling bins. These gifts will help the schools further improve their collection of recyclables.

“One of the main objectives of this campaign was to get to the grass root level by educating the students in a practical way on environmental issues. We are extremely pleased to have partnered with Dulsco in an effort to educate the green champions of the future. Students showed great interest in the competition and also gained an in-depth understanding on the importance of conservation,” said Asha Alexander, Principal of The Kindergarten Starters.

The Kindergarten Starters, Dubai was awarded the prestigious GREEN FLAG last year, by the Emirates Wildlife Society in association with World Wide Fund for Nature (EWS-WWF). This award was for demonstrating consistent improvement in environmental performance since it joined the global Eco-Schools programme in November, 2013, and for implementing sustainable and innovative practices within the school to reduce water and energy consumption.

Dulsco is a limited liability company and expanded its services to include all the Emirates and neighbouring Gulf countries and today is one of the foremost HR Solutions provider and recruitment agencies apart from being one of the most respected waste management service providers in Dubai.
